OCTOBER MINUTES

Attendees:
Dr. Marie Etienne, Maray Salina, Leonor Pupo, Natasha Carr, Chris Varela, Cara Kondaki, Tenesha Avent
Welcome:
SFCCC Co-Chair, Dr. Marie Etienne and Maray Salina greeted the members to the SFCCC Steering Committee meeting. Members were asked to state their name, organization, and workgroup they are a part of.
Workgroup Updates:
SFCCC Workgroup updates were provided are as follows:
1. Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group
Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group leader Leonor Pupo discussed the sponsorship from the
Miami Print Shop. The Miami Print Shop offered to donate the printing of the new SFCCC brochures. There was a request for the original high resolution SFCCC logo jpeg file. SFCCC Co-Chair, Maray Salina, stated she would reach out to her partners to see if someone could re-create the logo so the Collaborative can move forward with the printing of the brochures. The brochure will play an important role in educating the community about SFCCC meetings and activities.
2. Risk Reduction Work Group
The Risk Reduction Work Group Co-Chair position is currently vacant. The Steering Committee agreed to put
this as an item on the agenda for the December Quarterly meeting

3. Disparities Work Group
Chris Varela, Disparities Work Group leader noted the giant colon will be cleaned will would not be loaned out to organizations during the month of December. Starting in the new year, the giant colon will be housed in
Broward County to make it more centralized for pick-up when reserved. Members of the work group participated in a medical mission trip to Immokalee Florida, which provided medical services for migrant farmworkers. The
work group is also exploring opportunities with the Miami-Dade DOH Tobacco Work Group to become more
engage in their tobacco cessation efforts. The work group would like to focus on health education surrounding
vaping, and more specifically, vaping among youth.

4. Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group
Cara Kondacki, Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group are working on the wellness brochure to ensure it is
as comprehensive as possible. The work group has received confirmation from Holy Cross to host the 2020
Survivorship Symposium.

New Business

Update Collaborative Strategic Plan Table
a. The Steering committee reviewed the strategic plan and discussed objectives that need to be prioritized
such as the Tobacco Cessation objectives. The Collaborative will reach out to organizations such as Tobacco Free Florida and the Miami-Dade Department of Health Work Group to discuss how the Collaborative can
become more involved in the region’s Tobacco Cessation efforts.
