AUGUST MINUTES

Attendees: 

Dr. Marie Etienne, Maray Salina, Chris Varela, John Brown, Leonor Pupo, Cara Konkacki, Tenesha Avent

 

Welcome:  

SFCCC Co-Chair, Dr. Marie Etienne and Maray Salina greeted the members to the SFCCC Steering Committee meeting.  Members were asked to state their name, organization, and workgroup they are a part of.

 

Workgroup Updates:

SFCCC Workgroup updates were provided are as follows:

 

1.   Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group

      Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group will provide an update at the next meeting.

 

 2.  Risk Reduction Work Group

      Risk Reduction Work Group Leader, John Brown noted the group is currently collaborating with the American          Cancer Society and the American Lung Association on educational materials that will be disseminated at                  hospitals. The group is awaiting confirmation on the request submitted to Nova Southeastern University and 

      Florida International University’s Smoking/Vaping Outreach program to become more integrated in their   

      efforts. Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group Leader, Leonor Pupo is working with Risk Reduction        work group members at Memorial Regional Hospital on electronic educational materials that can be placed in          patients’ Memorial myChart portal.

 3.  Disparities Work Group

      Fayola Delica, Disparities Work Group leader noted the Disparities work group are working to build partnerships

      with organizations like Tobacco Free Florida to assist in health education to combat the new vaping trend.   

      The work group is also preparing for September which is Prostate Cancer Month. The goal is to utilize the       

      miseducation and myths about prostate cancer to provide promoted accurate health education.

 4.  Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group

      Cara Kondacki, Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group are working on the wellness brochure to ensure it

      is as comprehensive as possible.

 

New Business:

  1. Strategic Plan Revisions

  2. Objectives not on schedule

 

Announcements:

  1. SFCCC Quarterly Meeting 

      a. September 18- Miami-Dade Medical Campus Simulation Hospital.
