NOVEMBER MINUTES

Attendees: 

Dr. Marie Etienne, Maray Salina, Chris Varela, Cara Kondaki, Dinah Trevil, Leonor Pupo, Tenesha Avent

 

Welcome:  

SFCCC Co-Chair, Dr. Marie Etienne and Maray Salina greeted the members to the SFCCC Steering Committee meeting.

 

Workgroup Updates:

SFCCC Workgroup updates were provided are as follows:

 

Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group

Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group leaders will provide an update during the December Quarterly meeting.

 

Risk Reduction Work Group

Risk Reduction Work Group Leader Dinah Trevil informed members the Risk Reduction workgroup held their last meeting on Friday, November 13, 2020, in which, they created an outline of upcoming educational efforts to the community. The workgroup will work to start acquiring speakers for the webinar series scheduled to begin in January 2021. Workgroup leader Dinah Trevil will connect with the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center media department to inquire about videos being offered to the public to encourage cancer screenings.

 

Disparities Work Group

Disparities Workgroup leaders will provide an update during the December Quarterly meeting.

 

Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group

Survivorship and Quality of Life Work Group leader Cara Kondaki noted during the next workgroup meeting members will discuss activities to promote that will highlight the importance of mental health awareness, especially for patients with cancer and their caregivers.

New Business:

  1. Workgroup Meetings- â€‹â€‹Workgroup Meetings- Tenesha Avent, SFCCC Coordinator noted to the workgroup leaders additional support can be provided if any of the workgroup leaders need assistance with scheduling workgroup meetings.

  2. Workgroup Action Plan Tables- In order to streamline the reporting process of workgroup updates, the SFCCC Coordinator notified workgroup leaders they will receive a Workgroup Action Plan table to report their workgroup updates. The Coordinator requested feedback from the Steering Committee members regarding the table and if any revisions are needed.

  3. Mental Health Awareness​-During the previous Steering Committee Meeting, many of the members suggested highlighting the importance of mental health awareness for cancer patients. The Coordinator requested for all organizations to send announcements and resources to distribute to the community. The Steering Community will also work to obtain presenters on topics such as journaling, art therapy, and mindful meditation for future presentations.

  4. Lung Cancer Awareness-Since November is Lung Cancer Awareness month, the Collaborative will disseminate educational information regarding lung cancer risk factors and prevention measures, Lung Cancer early detection with Low Dose CT scans, and the importance of adhering to recommendations for lung cancer screenings.

Announcements

  1. The December Quarterly Meeting will be on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 8am-10am. The Coordinator will reach out to the Cleveland Clinic  and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center for presenters.
