Know Your Storm Surge Planning Zone

Storm surge is the greatest threat to life and property from a hurricane. It occurs when water from the ocean is pushed on shore by the force of tropical storms or hurricanes. Storm surge is the primary reason Miami-Dade County residents are asked to evacuate prior to a hurricane.

Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program (EEAP)

The Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program (EEAP) is designed for individuals living at home that need assistance with evacuation and sheltering.

 

Individuals are eligible for EEAP if any of the following conditions apply:

​

•You are unable to evacuate on your own due to a specialized transportation needs.

​

•You are homebound and unable to walk to a bus pickup point and/or do not have anyone who can provide transportation.

​

•You have medical needs that prevent you from evacuating on your own.

​

•You are Bed-bound.

​

•You are on life-sustaining medical equipment that requires electricity.

​

•You require assistance with activities of daily living.

​

Miami-Dade County Hurricane Preparedness Guide 

The Annual Official Hurricane Guides are sent to residents each year prior to the beginning of hurricane season. The guides are available in English, Spanish, and  Creole.  Residents are strongly encouraged to review the guide and/or download the Ready Miami-Dade App.
